American Rights at Work is hiring for a New Media Coordinator to join our team to make a difference for workers’ rights. This person is responsible for the organization’s online presence, including our website, online activist program, and Internet marketing and outreach.
This is neither an IT nor a web development position. We're looking for an innovative individual familiar with connecting technology and activism. Our ideal candidate is an activist, organizer, and political technologist who can lead our online operation for social change. You should be a compelling and succinct writer, work with content management systems, possess a keen eye for detail, multi-task under multiple deadlines, and enjoy a good degree of comfort with technology and online activism.
American Rights at Work is a young national labor policy and advocacy non-profit organization. Website Development & Management
•Manages web properties by maintaining, creating, and updating, web content, and overseeing those who assist in those efforts.
•Manages vendors to evolve and upgrade website functionality and design.
•Implements a strategy for search engine optimization.
•Monitors, tests, and solicits feedback to improve the online user experience, website content and services.
•Maintains editorial consistency and web style guidelines
•Produces and analyzes website traffic reports to share with staff.
•Responds to website inquiries and information requests, and oversees those who assist in those efforts.
•Designs and edit graphics as needed.
•Purchases, organizes, and maintains domains and hosting space owned by the organization.Email Advocacy/ Campaigns/ Messaging
•Manages online advocacy and fundraising campaign production in coordination with staff and outside vendors.
•Writes content for action campaigns and email messages.
•Maintains wrappers and pages for action campaigns and organizational messages.
•Develops strategy for maintenance of email lists and databases, and oversees those who help collect data.
•Conducts and shares timely and regular analysis of email campaign performance.Online Marketing & Outreach
•Creates and implements online marketing plans for website, products, campaigns, and events.
•Administers online advertising copy and placement.
•Promotes projects and reports via newsletters, listservs, and online communities.
•Develops relationships with bloggers and online communities.
•In conjunction with staff and outside vendors, develops strategies for list growth.General
•Collaborates on integration of advocacy strategies and website into organization's overall Web presence and strategic direction.
•Recruits and oversees the work of online communications interns, and online and technology consultants and vendors in coordination with Communications Director, and oversees online/web work of Communications Assistant.
•Uses expertise, independent judgment, and professional discretion in accomplishing work and coordinating the work of staff on projects related to new media.

- Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree and minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
•Demonstrated success managing a website, including image and web based media, preferably for an advocacy group/non profit/political campaign.
•Demonstrated project management skills and comfort in juggling multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
•Excellent writing and editing skills.
•Proactive problem solving skills and the ability to work independently.
•High degree of flexibility to handle the ambiguity of a start-up environment.Technical Experience:
•Basic HTML coding required, familiarity with WYSIWYG editors.
•Experience with online advocacy and fundraising applications (e-CRMs), preferably GetActive or Convio suites.
•Experience analyzing web reports, trends, traffic, etc
•Experience using a Content Management System, preferably Joomla.
•Experience in Photoshop and optimization of graphics for the web.
•CSS and/or JavaScript, and data management skills desirable.
•Online marketing and advertising background a plus.- How To Apply
