Technology and the Internet are changing democracy in America. Personal Democracy Forum is a hub for the exciting conversation underway between political professionals, technologists, and anyone else invigorated by the remarkable potential of technology to engage citizens in the democratic process.
One of the bi-products of interest in government 2.0 issues by the web 2.0 crowd is lively networking. Not only do we have a busy calendar of live and virtual events, we're seeing emergence of lots of virtual groups too. Here's some that have caught my eye.
- Tim Bonnemann of Intellitics compiled "14 Facebook groups for the dialogue, deliberation, public participation, e-government and e-democracy community" including "I support participatory democracy!," "Government 2.0," and "Participatory Budgeting"
- Ric Cantrell, Chief Deputy in the Utah State Senate, has started a linkedin.com group called "Government 2.0" (that's their logo above) and is managing associated emailings. From Rick I learned about a workshop in Algeria to better connect government with the public and media.
- one of the oldest networks is DoWire.org, Democracies Online. At DoWire you can find groups focused on democracy and software, a practitioners network, mobile government and more
- The World Bank has recently started the "DFGG Peer Learning Network." DFGG is a catchy acronym for "demand for good governance" and the group is "building a community of practice to strengthen and scale up demand-side governance efforts"
Please send me email or leave comments about groups I've missed.
