The Integration Proclamation: Inching Toward Interoperability
By Joshua Levy, 12/22/2006 - 12:10am

One of the more heated sessions I attended at RootsCampDC was titled, "Why Does Technology Suck?" where folks from all over the progressive tech world shared war stories about the headaches of trying to get different technology platforms to talk to each other. You can read my notes about it here.

At the root of the discussion was the lack of integration among software platforms (the interoperability Ben Schaffer of Media Mezcla discussed recently). After the session, Schaffer and other participants started formulating the Integration Proclamation, a manifesto calling for technology integration:

"We, the undersigned progressive leaders, have together identified technology integration as a top priority infrastructure need in 2007. We urge progressive funders, vendors and technologists to support a collaborative effort or entity dedicated to ensuring that our technologies integrate effectively, so that we can move forward with innovative, powerful platforms that will help us win."
