How to Blog Anonymously
By Micah L. Sifry, 10/05/2006 - 4:34pm

Do you want to blow the whistle on some kind of wrong-doing, but you can't afford the risk of being exposed? Here is the best, most up-to-date guide on how to protect the secrecy of your identity online, written by Ethan Zuckerman, one of my favorite geek-activists. It doesn't require a high degree of technical sophistication, and Zuckerman provides many helpful pointers to make sure you don't leave a traceable digital trail. Bookmark this one; you never know when you might need it.

Tor works better in theory than in reality

This whole concept revolves around a piece of software called Tor. Although an interesting program (which provides the ability to mask your IP address), Tor dramatically slows down your Internet, to the point where it is just better than Dial-up. Or at least that was the case when I tried it out.

Also a question: how secure is it, given that you are directed through random peoples servers from around the world in order to increase your anonymity. For instance, when i type www.google.com into my navigation bar, it takes me to google.de. When I disable Tor, I then again have access to google.com.

Then there is another conversation entirely about the pros and cons of blogging anonymously.
